PS3Center writes: After the successful port of the Sly Trilogy, Sanzaru Games were given the go ahead by Sony and Sucker Punch to make the next proper sequel to the franchise, almost eight years since the last game released on the PS2. Whilst this game was originally meant for the PSP, Sony asked Sanzaru games to instead make it for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation Vita, in a situation that was similar to how Ico released on the PS2 instead of the PS1.

"Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time is the latest installment in the Sly Cooper franchise which began with the PS2. The one thing to note here is that Sucker Punch--the original developers of the franchise--are not developing this game, and it's Sanzaru Games, the developers of Sly Collection, that are behind this game."

"The Sly Cooper series made its début for us UK gamers back on the PlayStation 2 in early 2003. On release, it was met with enough positive feedback about its easy and responsive controls, gameplay variety and lovely looking graphics, thanks to the cel-shaded style, to spawn two sequels on the same platform. After the arrival of the PlayStation 3, it seemed creators Sucker Punch had left poor Sly behind to create a new IP with the Infamous series. As you can see from the release of Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, all is not lost for fans of Sly and his merry gang."

If you are a Vita owner then you will be getting a slew of bonus extras with Cross-Play, AR treasure mode, and on the go Sly.

From GamesReviews: "Sly fans rejoice! After a whopping 8 year hiatus, Sly Cooper is back and better than ever. From Sanzaru Games, the (extremely capable) studio that brought us the Sly Trilogy, comes a long awaited, all new Sly Cooper adventure that completely captures the charm and wit of the first three games. With gorgeous visuals, an amazing voice acting cast and the witty humour that the series is known for, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time makes for a love letter to all the fans that have waited quietly and patiently for our favorite furry thief to make his inevitable comeback."

Reviewer Leo Stevenson writes, "I missed out on Sly Cooper the first time around and only managed to play The Thievius Raccoonus and Band of Thieves when the HD collection was released and thats where I stopped. "For all their charm, humour and the enjoyment to be had sneaking and stealing as Sly and the gang, I had no desire to play the series third game, Honour Among Thieves. The reason was simple: Sly Cooper always had a tendency to overstay his welcome. The first two games dragged on so much and became frustrating to play. They seemed to employ every trick in the book to artificially extend their play time."

Mike O'Raw takes a look at Sanzaru Games effort in Sly Cooper Thieves in Time. Not only do they treat the original IP of Sucker Punch with respect, they throw in some cross play features between PS3 and PS Vita. All in all they make a good modern adaptation of a retro platformer.
